Boil the pasta in generously salted water until al dente. In the last 2–3 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli rabe to the same pot. Drain everything together, reserving ½ cup of the starchy water.
Brown the sliced Italian sausages in a large skillet over medium heat until fully cooked and crispy on the edges. Break it up into bite-sized pieces as it cooks.
Add garlic and red pepper flakes to the sausage. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
Toss in the drained pasta and broccoli rabe. Pour in the reserved pasta water and olive oil, stirring to coat everything in the glossy sauce.
Add lemon zest, season with salt and pepper, and give it one last toss.
Serve hot, showered with Parmesan and a drizzle of olive oil if you're feeling extra.
